House Ethics Committee Launches Full Investigation into Rep. Cory Mills Amid Allegations

The House Ethics Committee announced on Tuesday that it will conduct a “full and thorough” investigation into Rep. Cory Mills, a Republican from Arizona, following allegations of domestic violence and other misconduct. Rep. Mills, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump for a second term, has denied the accusations and called them politically motivated.

The probe comes at a time when congressional ethics investigations have intensified after several high‑profile cases in the past two years. The allegations against Mills were first reported in late April by local media, prompting calls from both Democratic and some Republican members for formal scrutiny.

According to the Washington Post, the committee’s chair, Rep. James Comer (R‑KY), said, “We will examine all evidence and ensure due process,” while a senior aide to Rep. Mills told reporters that “the allegations are baseless and part of an orchestrated campaign to damage his reputation.” The House Ethics Committee’s statement emphasized transparency and promised regular updates.

Legal experts say the investigation could have serious ramifications for Mills’s career, especially if the findings substantiate the claims. Professor Alan Pierce of Georgetown Law noted, “Even if he is not formally censured, the political fallout could be severe, particularly with an upcoming primary challenge.” Republicans worry the case may be used by Democrats to paint the party as tolerant of misconduct.

The committee is expected to issue an interim report by the end of August, with a final verdict due before the November midterm elections. Lawmakers and advocacy groups will be closely watching the process, as its outcome could set a precedent for how future allegations against sitting members are addressed.
