European Political Community summit convenes in Yerevan, drawing leaders from Europe and beyond
The 8th European Political Community (EPC) summit took place in Yerevan on 4‑5 May 2026, with participation from European heads of state, the Canadian prime minister and, for the first time, a non‑European leader. Georgian officials met Ukrainian counterparts – Foreign Minister Andri Sibih and President Mikheil Kobakhidze held talks with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy – while President Ilham Aliyev addressed the opening session via video and expressed hopes to attend the 2028 summit in person. President Mikheil Saakashvili criticised the venue, saying the summit should have been held in Tbilisi, and Georgia’s foreign minister highlighted the country’s role linking seven states to the Black Sea. The articles differ in emphasis, ranging from Saakashvili’s protest to Aliyev’s peace message and economic cooperation talks.
