Drug Overdose Deaths Decline for Third Year in a Row
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that fatal drug overdoses fell by 14 percent to 68,632 deaths in December 2025. This marks three consecutive years of declines. The CDC cites ongoing efforts such as prescription drug monitoring programs and increased access to naloxone as reasons for the reduction. However, experts caution that while progress is being made, public health officials remain vigilant due to underlying factors that contribute to overdose risks.
