VCK leader Thirumavalavan weighs cabinet post, stirs internal party debate

Tamil Nadu politician Thiruvaarur Thirumavalavan is reportedly hesitant to accept a ministerial berth in the state cabinet, creating a rift within the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). Party insiders claim Thirumavalavan prefers to remain outside the government, while senior office bearers are urging him to reconsider.

The VCK, a key ally of the ruling coalition, has traditionally leveraged cabinet positions to influence policy on social justice and caste equity. Thirumavalavan’s potential participation could affect the coalition’s balance.

The Hindu quotes party sources saying, “He does not want to formally join the State Government, but the party’s office bearers are urging him to rethink it.” No official statement has been released by the VCK.

Political analysts suggest that Thirumavalavan’s decision will signal the party’s strategic direction ahead of upcoming local elections, possibly reshaping alliance dynamics.

The matter is expected to be settled in the next VCK executive meeting, after which a formal stance on cabinet participation will be announced.
