Two killed after KSRTC bus loses control and plunges into gorge on Bidar‑Zaheerabad road

A Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus travelling at high speed veered off a sharp turn on the Bidar‑Zaheerabad highway on 12 May 2026, striking a motorcycle before overturning into a roadside gorge, killing two passengers. Police reports indicated the driver lost control near the bend, leading to the tragedy.

The accident adds to a series of recent road fatality incidents in the region, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of speed limits on mountainous routes.

The Hindu details that rescuers arrived within minutes, but the bus’s overturned position made extraction difficult. The victims have been identified as local residents, and the driver is currently under investigation for possible negligence.

Transport safety experts caution that inadequate driver training and poor road signage contribute to such incidents, urging authorities to implement safety audits.

The KSRTC has announced a review of its fleet’s speed monitoring systems and promised to cooperate with the investigation, while families of the victims await compensation and further inquiries.
