NCW report flags toxic culture and POSH non‑compliance at TCS Nashik hub

A National Commission for Women (NCW) investigation released on May 11, 2026, uncovered a "deeply disturbing" workplace environment at Tata Consultancy Services' (TCS) Nashik center, citing pervasive sexual harassment, abuse of authority, and a complete lack of compliance with the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act.

The findings arrive as India's tech sector faces heightened scrutiny over gender equity after several high‑profile cases surfaced in 2023‑24. The NCW's report highlights that the Nashik unit, employing over 6,000 staff, failed to establish an Internal Complaints Committee and allowed senior managers to intimidate junior women employees.

The Hindu reports that senior NCW member Meera Sinha said, "The culture at this centre normalises harassment and silences victims," while TCS spokesperson Arjun Mehta told Reuters the company had "already initiated corrective actions and will work closely with regulators." The report also cites internal audit data showing a 0% POSH compliance rate in the past two years.

Labor law experts from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, warned that the scandal could trigger stricter enforcement of the POSH Act and lead to significant penalties for multinational firms. Industry bodies are calling for a sector‑wide audit to restore confidence.

TCS is expected to submit a remediation plan to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs by August 2026, and the NCW has indicated it will monitor implementation closely, with a potential follow‑up audit in early 2027.
