Australian supermarket ‘natural’ and ‘sustainable’ labels often just marketing, study finds

A survey of more than 27,000 packaged foods sold by major Australian supermarkets showed that items marketed as “natural” or “sustainable” frequently had higher carbon emissions than comparable unlabelled products. Researchers say the labels are largely unverified marketing terms. The findings call for clearer labelling standards.
