Amazon Orders Romance Series ‘Rose Hill’ Based on Elsie Silver Novels

Amazon Prime Video announced on May 11, 2026, that it has greenlit a new series adaptation of Elsie Silver’s “Rose Hill” romance novels. The project, titled simply “Rose Hill,” will follow the intertwined lives of the inhabitants of a fictional English countryside estate, blending period drama with contemporary romance tropes.

The series is part of Amazon’s broader push to expand its original romance slate, following the success of titles like “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” The novels have amassed a devoted fanbase of over 3 million readers worldwide, making the adaptation a strategic content acquisition for the streaming platform.

Variety disclosed that the series will be produced by Silver’s own production company, Rosehill Studios, with showrunner Maya Patel attached to helm the adaptation. An early logline describes the story as focusing on “a young governess navigating love, scandal, and societal expectations in post‑World‑War II England.” Lead casting discussions are reportedly underway, with names such as Lily James and Sam Heughan being floated.

Analysts at Media Analyst Group forecast the series could attract a core demographic of women aged 18‑34, bolstering Amazon’s subscriber growth in key markets. However, some critics warn that the adaptation must balance fidelity to source material with modern storytelling sensibilities to avoid alienating older fans.

Production is slated to begin in early 2027 in the United Kingdom, with a tentative release date set for the spring of 2028. Amazon will also launch a cross‑platform marketing campaign, including a partnership with the publisher HarperCollins for exclusive short stories tied to the series.
